LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Take a good look at the video. It shows a terrifying scene on I-96 Thursday night when a semi-truck suddenly veered across the highway.

6 News has obtained video surveillance camera footage of the truck slashing across the median, oncoming traffic lanes and into a lot full of car at a south Lansing auto dealership.

Police tell 6 News that the 36-year-old Canadian driver was eastbound on I-96 approaching the South Cedar exit just after 7:00 p.m. when he suddenly swerved across the median.

The truck went straight across the westbound lanes, across the roadside and into the Shaheen Chevrolet car lot.

It finally came to a stop when it slammed into a light pole.

At that point witnesses say the driver got out of the cab and briefly walked around.

He then returned to the smoke-filled cab where emergency crews had to remove him.

The driver was airlifted to the University of Michigan hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

According to the Lansing Police they are investigating alcohol and mental health issues as factors in the crash.

There were no other injuries.
