The Michigan State Men’s Basketball Team arrived home today with head coach Tom Izzo after losing to Texas Tech in the Final Four on Saturday night.
This was Izzo’s eighth appearance in the Final Four. While the team and fans were hoping for a different outcome, Izzo says it was still a great experience.
“When we got beat, there were so many families up there and I looked at it as this is a chance for them to be with their families but it was really a chance for us to interact with all of our alums and I thought the time and place for what was going on was a important thing,” said Coach Tom Izzo. “I took a little leadership role and said the hotels are paid for, everything is right and we are going to give these players something that they don’t normally get.”
The number three seeded Texas Tech Red Raiders beat the number two seeded Michigan State Spartans on Saturday. Although the final score was 61 to 51, the highly defensive game produced one of the lowest scoring halves since 2000, at 23 to 21.
Despite Izzo’s best efforts, the Spartans headed home after a hard fought NCAA tournament.
The Red Raiders will take on the number one seeded Virginia Cavaliers who beat Auburn 63 to 62.
The NCAA championship game is tonight at 9:20 PM on WLNS-TV 6.
