ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI (WLNS) – It’s a shocking finish to the season for MSU as the Spartans fall to Middle Tennessee 90 – 81.
“Not many things in sports over the years me stunned,” said Fred Heumann, 6 Sports Director.
“In 35 years or more I feel like I’ve seen it all. This one absolutely floored me. I didn’t think there was any chance Michigan State, a no. 2 seed, the 2nd ranked team in the country would stumble to 15th seeded Middle Tennessee Friday, but that’s sports.”
The Spartans trying to win a 2nd National Championship in the Tom Izzo era and that’s all they’ve talked about for months.
Middle Tennessee came out of the box, leading 13 to 2 and how about this, a 15 to 2 lead for the Blue Raiders on that jumper.
Michigan State kept trying to come back, you always felt they were going to make a run. But the Spartans just couldn’t get a whole lot closer. They never lead in this ball game.
Middle Tennessee made the clutch plays down the stretch.
Michigan State falls in the NCAA Tournament opener, one of the worst losses in the Tom Izzo era, certainly in the NCAA Tournament, the season ends for Michigan State.
We’ll have much more coming up on 6 Sports at 6 and the 5th Quarter on 6 News after the game.
