Students celebrate nature through zoo craft project

News

Today was full of celebrating nature at the Potter Park Zoo, and a group of fifth grade students from Murphy Elementary School put together their own projects— for some of the zoo’s animals.

The annual project uses cardboard and newspaper to make artistic displays that are filled with treats for the animals.

As you can see..These mandrill monkeys really liked them!

Their teachers say it was a blast to watch their students work together and to make them, and see their hard work pay off.

“When the kids actually get to see something that they’ve put a lot of time into, and they’re the experts, people around them are asking questions and they’re actually able to answer because it’s theirs, it’s awesome,” teacher Kevin Hatch said. “I mean that’s why we become teachers, just to see the kids grow and share.”
