Why do you run?  For most of us it’s something we do to keep in shape or spend time with friends and family.

We’ll probably never be champion runners but on Saturday, April 13 we can run with champions.

That’s when thousands of runners and walkers will be part of the inaugural Izzo Legacy 5K Run/Walk on the Michigan State University campus.

Sponsored by Auto-Owners, the 5k and Mile Run/Walk will start at the Breslin Center near the Hall of History, pass by Jenison Field House, Old College Field, Sparty, Ralph Young Track and Field, and finish outside of Spartan Stadium.

Upon completion, participants will be able to walk around the field before the Spring Football Game!

Tom and Lupe Izzo will be on hand to cheer on the runners and walkers.

Thousands of people have already registered for the event and you can still sign up to take part.

“We’re looking for a big registration week!,” said Rob Antcliff, Director of Marketing for the Playmakers Fitness Foundation.

StormTracker 6 meteorologist Jim Geyer took a look ahead to race day weather and says, while this is spring in Michigan and the weather can change quickly, it looks like Saturday will be dry and a bit on the chilly side.  You can check the latest forecasts right up to race time on the StormTracker 6 Weather app or online.

Here is the course for the 5K:
