If your property receives storm damage documenting it properly for insurance can save a lot of time and money.
According to Farm Bureau Insurance, the first thing you’ll want to do if you experience any damage is to contact your agent.
Get the ball rolling on the claim you’re about to make.
Step 2, take photos.
Document damage with detailed pictures and videos.
Carry a notebook. That way you can track how much repairs are costing and jot down any questions you might want to ask.
Then put on your tool belt and make any temporary repairs to protect your property from further damage.
Lastly, make sure you know what your policy covers and what it doesn’t.
“In Michigan you know how the weather is, it’s sunny one second and then the next there can be a storm so and there’s a lot of water so you just want to make sure. Because certain policies don’t cover flood or water damage so you just want to make sure your covered and you didn’t just get the most low budget generic policy that isn’t really covering anything it’s just kind of there,” says Agent at Farm Bureau Insurance, Nathan Fuentes.
