THIS MORNING: “Do 1 Thing Day”, steps to protect your family during disasters

Between ice storms, tornadoes, flooding, and home fires.. disasters can happen at any minute.

But if one were to happen right now, would your family be ready?

Preparing for an emergency can seem like a big job. Many people don’t know where to start, so they never start at all.

With “Do 1 Thing” you can take small steps that make a big difference in an emergency.

Do 1 Thing is a 12-month program that makes it easy for you to prepare yourself, your family, and your community for emergencies or disasters.

This Saturday, August 4th, Lansing’s Office of Emergency Management is hosting the first “Do 1 Thing Day” at the Schmidt Center in Lansing from 10am-2pm.

There will be free food, kids games, emergency vehicles, and information about how you can better prepare your family for a disaster.

The event is free and everyone is welcome to come out.
