Distracted driving is not just dangerous, it’s deadly.
According to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, more than 3,000 people were killed by distracted driving in 2017 alone.
Now, a Jackson teen is calling attention to the issue hoping to win some money for his future at the same time.
Jackson native, Jake Walsh, is a finalist in the Toyota “TeenDrive 365” video contest.
A challenge where teens create a Public Service Announcement calling attention to distracted driving.
The 18-year old named his PSA, “Focus on your dreams, not your phone.”
He says he plans to focus on his dreams if he wins and use the money to go to film school.
Each finalist receives a $2,5000 cash prize.
The first place prize is $15,000 and the chance to turn their video into a TV ready PSA.
Aside from Walsh, there are two other Michigan teens who’s made it to the finals.
