This Morning: Learn to create your own vermicompost bin

If you’re looking to get rid of smelly, leftover food and help the enviornment at the same time, vermicomposting could be for you!

The Allen Neighborhood Center is hosting a workshop at Hunter Park Gardenhouse in Lansing this weekend where you cna learn to create your own worm composting bin.

It’s a combination of red worms, dirt, newspaper clippings, and food scraps that can be used to create fertilizer or soils to grow new vegetables.

“Instead of taking your food waste and throwing it away in the landfill where it really just stays garbage forever, you’re taking those pounds of food scraps out of the waste stream and diverting it into a useful product,” says Egypt Krohn, manager at Hunter Park Gardenhouse.

The event will take place at Hunter Park Gardenhouse at 1400 E. Kalamazoo St. in Lansing on Saturday from 12-2PM.

Organizers ask for a $12 donation.
