BROOKLYN, Mich. (WLNS) – Sunday, tens of thousands of NASCAR fans headed to the Michigan International Speedway for the annual FireKeepers Casino 400 race.

It was a loud day full of excitement.

“Oh this is my first time,” Garret Mitchell said.

“Enjoying my first NASCAR experience, right here behind the pits,” Mike Tugen said.

Mike Tugen has a front row seat to all the action on pit road.

“It’s interesting to see the interaction of the teams and uh they’ve come down pit road at least a couple times now,” Tugen said.

Garret Mitchell is hoping for a win for his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson.

“I was a NASCAR fan when I was younger,” Mitchell said. “I liked the engines, the sound of them just going across the finish line.”

“It’s one thing to see it on TV. But it’s a whole other experience to be here in person,” Tugen said. “What guy doesn’t like fast cars?”

Vickie Smith even has some fast cars of her own.

“One of my favorite, favorite hobbies, so I’m having a good time,” Smith said.

“I always love coming to this track, and as you can see, it’s extremely loud,” Jaimee Murphy said.

“The environment is very loud, a lot of fun, and it looks like everybody’s having a good time,” Smith said.
