In 2018, 58 pedestrians were killed as a result of a pedestrian-involved traffic crash.

Keep pedestrians safe as a driver by obeying all posted speed limits and stopping at traffic signals or stop signs before a crosswalk. Do not block a roadway as it could interfere with the normal flow of traffic and yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk at an intersection with signals.

To stay safe wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight when walking at night or in the early morning and use sidewalks whenever possible. When a sidewalk is not available, walk facing traffic and as far to the left as possible when walking in the roadway.

Try to cross streets at a corner, using traffic signals and crosswalks whenever possible and never cross mid-block. Look left, then right, then left again before crossing the street.

Both motorists and pedestrians should be extra cautious by avoiding distractions, following traffic signals, and being aware of each other.
