MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich (WLNS) – A tourist on Mackinac Island died in a bizarre bicycle accident Tuesday.
The woman lost control of her bicycle and fell under a moving horse-drawn carriage.
Carriages and bicycles are the major modes of transportation on the Island.
It happened on Main Street near the Mackinac Public Library.
According to the Michigan State Police Gail Johnson, from Liano, Texas, was riding a bicycle on Main Street when she lost control of the bike,
The woman fell under a passing horse-drawn carriage. The carriage was driven by a 23-year-old Mason man working for Carriage Tours of Mackinac Island. He was unhurt.
She died at the Mackinac Island Medical Center.
Investigators could not say if the woman had a medical incident before the accident.
An autopsy is scheduled for today in Grand Rapids.
