To accommodate the construction for the Infrastructure Restructure project, approximately 30 trees will be removed along Michigan Ave starting Thursday, March 7th.

The trees are located in the median of Michigan Ave and will be removed to maintain traffic while new underground sewers are placed in the area.

City staff in East Lansing worked closely with the Michigan Department of Transportation to preserve as many of the trees as possible and all of the trees that are removed will be replaced as a part of the site restoration at the completion of the project.

Additionally the federally-protected Indiana and Northern Long-Eared bats which are endangered and threatened species will be returning to the area in April and will be nesting in community trees.

The Infrastructure Restructure project includes underground infrastructure improvements along Michigan Avenue from Harrison Road to Highland Avenue as well as at the Michigan-Harrison intersection and along some local streets in the area.
