UPDATE: Body found in Lansing manhole

UPDATE: Lansing Police say the body has been removed from the sewer line.  The gender is undetermined because of the decomposition. An autopsy will be performed.

ORIGINAL STORY: A public service employee made a surprising discovery this morning in a manhole in a Lansing street.

Just after 10:00 a.m. today a body was found in the manhole near the intersection of Herbert Street and Wilson Street on the city’s south side.

Lansing Police are calling the death suspicious as the investigation gets underway.

One person who has lived in the neighborhood for decades says it’s like nothing he’s ever seen there.

“I lived here for 40 years,” Arthur Castillo said. “And things have happened here, but nothing like this.”
