UPDATE: Early morning crash kills one, closes highway exit

UPDATE (10:00 A.M.) – Lansing Police have identified the victim of Friday’s deadly car crash on Westbound I-496 at the Walnut Street/Pine Street exit as 23 year-old Roderick Shawn Reeves Jr. of Lansing.

The accident is still under investigation but officials ask if you have any information to call the Lansing Police Department at 517-483-4600.

UPDATE: It appears the deceased tried taking the exit too late and lost control when making the aggressive maneuver to get off on the ramp, going into a side slip and rolling it.

The main factors were bald tires and a wet road surface along with aggressive lane change.

LANSING, MI — A single car accident closed the Walnut Street/Pine Street exit on westbound I-496 for over two hours Friday morning.

The crash happened just before 4:30am.

Lansing police have released few details but tell 6 News that a man has died from his injuries.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
