UPDATE: Majority of 99 cats saved from Lansing-area home euthanized

LANSING TOWNSHIP, MI (AP/WLNS) – More than half of 99 cats recovered from a Lansing-area home last week have been euthanized.

On June 10, officials removed 124 cats from the Lansing Township home, 25 of them dead. Of the remaining 99 cats, 67 have since been euthanized.

Ingham County Animal Control Director Andrew Seltz says many of the cats recovered alive were in poor health after living in their own waste and being exposed to ammonia.

Seltz says he hopes that some of the cats that survived will be up for adoption by the end of the week at an area shelter.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested at the home the same day the cats were removed. Seltz says he plans to recommend criminal charges.
