Three seconds. That’s all it took for a tornado to destroy a house in Vernon.
“Just like that. It was crazy,” says Pat Fuja, a Vernon Township resident. He could only watch from the road as the tornado knocked the home over– with his 86 year old mother alone inside.
Fuja raced up the driveway in the dark, in the rain, as soon as the tornado passed. He found her in that same room, near her recliner. She made it out with no injuries.
Fuja says they were able to save her dog from the house. He says the family is just grateful for the chance to move forward at all.
“We’re just thanking the Lord for it, you know,” Fuja says. “This…could’ve been a lot worse, you know and even though this is about the worst, they said, you know, that they’ve seen.”
