(WLNS) – The names of the three Eaton County Sheriff’s deputies involved in two separate fatal shootings are now known.

The Michigan State Police is investigating officer-involved shootings that took place on February 17 and February 28 in Eaton County.

In the first shooting, 15-year veteran Deputy Tad Schwartz and Deputy Theresa VanDorpe, a 17-year veteran of the department, were involved. During that incident they responded to a call that a car was stuck in a ditch on Canfield Road in Eaton Rapids Township. According to Michigan State Police investigators a weapon was seen in the car. During a confrontation 32-year-old Matthew Lundy of Charlotte was shot by the two deputies. He died at the scene.

The second fatal shooting took place on M-43 near Cochran Road in Roxand Township at about 8:30 p.m. February 28. Investigators say in the course of a traffic stop 17-year-old Deven Guilford of Mulliken got into a struggle with Sgt. Jonathan Frost, an eight-year veteran of the department. Sgt. Frost was injured during the struggle and shot Guilford, who died at the scene. The sergeant was hospitalized for his still undisclosed injuries.

The three are on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed. When it is completed the results will be turned over to the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office for review and any further action.
