Within hours of Democrat Gretchen Whitmer winning her race for governor against Republican Bill Schuette, the transition to the state’s top job began.

Outgoing Governor Rick Snyder welcomed Governor-Elect Whitmer to the Governor’s Office in Lansing today.

The two are beginning to form the plans for the transition of power on January 1, 2019.

Snyder said,“It’s important that we have a smooth, strong transition so that Governor-Elect Whitmer can put her foot on the gas on day one and help maintain Michigan’s momentum.”

Governor Snyder’s administration has been planning the transition for the past year, knowing that Snyder was term-limited out of office at the end of this year.
