6 Sports Team of the Week: DeWitt Girls Basketball

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) – Now back in full swing for the winter sports seasons we resume our Team of the Week and this first selection of the new calendar year is a red hot girls hoop team that won by 36 points last night to remain unbeaten on the season.

In fact, hasn’t lost a basketball game since last March.

Congrats to the 6 Sports Team of the Week: the DeWitt Panthers girls basketball team.

With a nice shot under pressure the Panthers are coming off a big conference win against Waverly last Friday and a 48 to 12 win last night over Mt. Pleasant.

Next up is arch-rival Haslett Friday.

The Panthers are undefeated in the CAAC Red, ranked second in the state in class A and the team was thrilled to win this plaque having not won it once during their 25-2 state runner-up season a year ago.

“Oh it’s nice, I mean we’re always happy to receive, to get recognition,” said DeWitt head coach Bill McCullen. “You know, for this team in particular I think they’re filling some pretty big shoes are a lot of these kids and we’ve tried to downplay it as much as we can but I’m sure they’re trying to live up to their former teammates.”

Senior forward Summer Ward adds “I think it’s very big that our younger players are stepping up this year and our two guards are really pushing it and they’re leading our team out there and just always keeping the energy up.”

“It’s great for us but now we kinda have a spotlight on our back so we just gotta stay focused and keep pushing,” adds senior forward Bailey Slater.
