With the 83rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Justin Layne.
The 6-foot-2, 192-pound Spartan cornerback began his Michigan State career as a wide receiver before transitioning to cornerback midway through his first season in 2016.
Layne made 26 starts in 34 career games for the Spartans and finished his career with 130 tackles, three interceptions and 24 pass break-ups.
The 20th pick of the 3rd round recieved MSU’s most outstanding underclass back award on defense.
Michigan State is one of just five schools to have had at least one player chosen every year since the beginning of the common NFL Draft in 1967.
Additionally, one Spartan has been selected in the NFL Draft since 1941, the third-longest streak in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision which is the top level of college football in the United States.
